Urostomy Surgery
Usually, ostomy surgeries are safe, especially when it comes to the urostomy, there is no serious problem or risk is connected. However, there could be some problems during or after the operation. Therefore, we shall discuss some of them to clear the points and to know what we should expect with the urostomy.
A urostomy is a kind of ostomy surgery that is related to the organic urinary tract diversion. When a person has infection or cancer in the ureter tubes, bladder, or kidneys, then he/she needs to go through a urostomy. In this surgical intervention, surgeons abolish the entire bladder or some of the ureter tubes. It depends on the diseased area and dysfunctional tubes. Moreover, in the case of cancer, they eradicate some of the lymph nodes from the sides of the bladder. These are small cells that are accountable for the immune system of the human body. However, due to the closeness, surgeons need to take these small nodes or cells out of the body. Well, this is a lymphatic system that is present in the whole body, therefore, no need to worry about the removal of the few cells. Other nodes will perform their duties in the rest of the body organs.
During the urostomy surgery, a doctor uses the small intestine (ileum). They re-shape the location of the ileum. They cut the small intestine from the one end and attach it to the ureter tubes, while the other end to the stoma. The stoma is the new part of the abdomen. Surgeons fabricate it during the surgical intervention. It is accountable for the release and collection of the urine. Well, after the deletion of the bladder, there is no organ on the abdomen that can control the urine or liquid waste. Therefore, the ileum picks the pee from the kidneys and passes it directly to the stoma. The hole collects the urine in a bag/sack, called an ostomy pouch. A patient will drain the bag when it gets half-full or 1/3 full. Moreover, it requires vigilant hygiene and care routine.

Complications Involved in the Urostomy Surgery
Well, the urostomy does not have any serious problems or threats. In fact, it improves the life of the patient and gives a healthy and new lifestyle. But sometimes a patient might catch some internal organ problems or wounds. Moreover, sometimes the careless routine and poor hygiene pattern can cause severe infections to the stoma and internal organs of the abdomen.
Right after the urostomy operation, some patients develop wounds or blood clots in the ileum or stoma. This is something you cannot treat, you need a WOC nurse and surgeon’s help to vandalize this infection. The doctor will give you some of the antibiotics and other medicines for the treatment. Moreover, the nurse will clean and wash the internal wound and clot.

Moreover, if an ostomy patient is suffering from cough, then the pressure on the abdomen and intestine can cause damage to the stoma and internal organs. Therefore, an ostomate needs medicines to treat the cough and you should do exercise to relax the lungs. Moreover, avoid cold meals and drinks to get rid of this horrific situation. Yoga and deep breaths can help you a lot.
Some patients go through the problem of swelling in the genital organs (vagina and penis). This is a normal post-operation condition; however, in a few cases, it might turn into the worst nightmare. Sometimes it gives you pangs and the swelling does not go off. Thus, you should seek doctors’ and nurses’ assistance. It can cause constipation, soreness, or diarrhea.
Moreover, when you are home and you do not take care of your stoma, then it develops complications and risks to your overall health. The opening can start bleeding, release mucus, and develop wounds. Thus, an ostomate needs watchful care and a cleanliness routine.
